I am writing to you from the chemo suite.
That was my way of telling you my scan results.
The short version is that my blood markers went up and there was some, some growth of the tumors they were monitoring on my scans.
They didn’t explode; there was minimal growth. Really, the vitamin C is as effective as the trial I was on. Or the trial drug was as ineffective as the vitamin C. It depends on whether you’re a glass half full or glass half empty type person.
Jenna saw no reason to begin treatment until after I was back from vacation. Shanthi wanted me to start sooner rather than later, but said, well, okay, I guess, fine you can wait until you get back. I said, nope, we’re starting soon. And Shanthi said, phew. She was worried the growth would explode.
So, we cancelled our summer vacation plans which was a big relief to both Matt and I anyway, and yesterday I began my Lonsurf regimen. So far I feel just fine. I had some mild nausea yesterday but it was barely notable. I feel more nauseated sitting here waiting for my Avastin to begin as I’m listening to a nurse explain to a new cancer patient the nausea and fatigue. The patient sounds as gung-ho as I felt when I came in for my “chemo education”.
I plan to continue the Vitamin C after a month of Lonsurf. And the mistletoe, Shanthi said I can start as soon as she’s gotten the first round of blood work back. There is another biopsy in my future to check for mutations. We’ll see how the Lonsurf does. That’s the theme for the moment - let’s just see how this goes.
Today, Matt took the kids fishing. Tomorrow we’re going camping. The sunflowers are beginning to bloom and the pink and white gladioli are shooting up their buds. I’ve been peeling logs for some cliff-swallow houses and Joseph, Aubrey and I are still enraptured by the Ari Ara series from Rivera Sun.
Love,
Love you all to the moon and back!!
Sarah it’s a relief to find you here. With all the ups and downs. I stopped getting your newsletter when you switched directions.
