Hi everyone,
This is Sarah writing now.
I have been home ten/eleven days. I got home on the Sunday, nine days after my surgery. Thank you all for your messages of support and love.
The surgeon removed a lot of disease, he said. I was mistaken about having some of my stomach removed (I swear that’s what someone told me while I was in recovery). What actually happened was that my small intestine had herniated over the top of my colon and my stomach. It sounded like it was a bit of a head scratcher for the surgery team, as they weren’t sure how my intestines were still healthy. They said they spent the first half an hour of my surgery putting everything back where it is supposed to be.
I am improving, faster than what I was told to expect, I think, but it feels slow. I am no longer needing naps during the day, and thanks to some THC am sleeping very well at night (though waking up slightly stoned - a feeling that dissipates quickly, thank goodness).
My eating is pretty much back to normal. I had been told that I wouldn’t be able to eat much for a while. That didn’t last very long.
The last two mornings I walked two miles with Zeph.
I have a follow-up this coming Friday. I hope my staples will be removed then. They are bothering me.
While I was in hospital, Matt and his mum moved us into a new house a couple of hours away. So I have been recovering at the new house.
The children now have friends right across the road and we have a beautiful view out the back of the house. There is a public trail close by that I am walking on, soon to run. Yesterday, Aubrey and I biked the two miles to town, with Zeph running along with us. Matt picked us up on his way home.
I am still on daily painkillers, though not the strong stuff any more. And I still have to sit still for long periods of the day to give my tummy a break, but that is also decreasing.
That’s about all I can think of. Any questions?
Dear Sarah,
You are such an amazing, strong and optimistic human being. My family and I are so pleased to hear of your excellent progress in healing and we continue to pray for your progress. Take good care of yourself.
Warm Regards,
Rolf
Hi Sarah, so glad to hear from you again! Glad to hear your recovery is coming along well and that you are pacing yourself. Do me a favor and tell the kids and Matt that I say “Hello” and give the ducks some grass for me. Love you and yours!
